Programs for Students with Cognitive Impairments

 

 

 

The CISD offers programs for students with Moderate Cognitive Impairments (MoCI) and Severe Cognitive Impairments (SCI).

 

 

 

Moderate Cognitively Impaired (MoCI) Programs

 

Students participating in the Moderately Cognitively Impaired programs receive customized instruction to maximize their individual skills in the following areas:

 

  • Self Care Skills
  • Daily Living Skills
  • Social Skills
  • Communication Skills
  • Functional Academic Skills
  • Prevocational Skills
  • Recreation and Leisure Skills

 

The goal of the program is for students to gain independence in all focus areas while workign in both the classroom and community settings.

 

 

Severe Cognitively Impaired (SCI) Programs

 

Students in the SCI classrooms receive customized instruction to develop the skills needed to maximize their individual potential.  A variety of curricular insturction and assessments are used to determine students level of performance and drive classroom instruction.  The areas of focus in the SCI classrooms are:

 

  • Self Care Skills
  • Social Skills
  • Cognitive Skills
  • Sensory Needs
  • Mobility
  • Prevocational Skills
  • Communication Skills
  • Functional Academic Skills

 

The SCI programs collaborate with ancillary staff to full meet the unique needs of all students.  The goal of this program is to promote student growth in all domains while focusing on post secondary objectives.
